Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers

Spring gardening on the Gold Coast

Be inspired

The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is the highlight of many gardeners calendar. For a couple of weeks in September each year the gardens of Toowoomba come alive with colour.

Gardens of Toowoomba

The Carnival of Flowers, which takes place over a number of pubic and private gardens in Toowoomba has been running since 1943. The festival was initially created as a way for the city to highlight it’s “Garden City” reputation and promote regional activity after the war. The public parks and gardens of Toowoomba can be enjoyed year round but during September they come into full bloom. Take some time to visit Queens Park – home of the Toowoomba Botanic Gardens. Here you can spend hours exploring the 25 hectares. It is only a short stroll from the city centre.

Laurel Bank Park is truly spectacular during The Carnival of Flowers. It features witty topiary, scented gardens, bulb displays, a children’s ornament garden, the magnificent (and fragrant) wisteria arbour and some gorgeous flowering peaches.

Other gardens to visit during the festival are Picnic Point – for the view, Peacehaven – for the native plants and wildlife, Spring Bluff for the history (take the train trip if you can!) and the Japanese Garden at the University of Southern QLD is the ideal place to stroll and meditate.
